I’m continuing in the spirit of liquid picker uppers, because they are simply the best! Smoothies are my favorite! They quench the thirst and feed the body, all in one go.
This one goes to all the hard-working brains out there with a prayer that they be a “smooth operator”!
Let’s face it – it is not easy for your brain to keep you awake and chirpy during this month of odd hours of sleeping and eating. Moreover, the brain has a very daunting task of making the annual inventory of our thoughts, and clearing away the sizable portion of those toxic ones. Lord have mercy!
Actually, the hunger we feel is mostly the body’s way of signaling thirst particularly on brain cell level, and then no wonder we’re so exhausted. So please, see to it that you drink plenty of fluids when you break your fast, before switching gears to solids.
This yummy smoothie is loaded with tryptophan, an essential amino acid that is the only substance that can be converted into serotonin (the “feel good hormone”) which, in its turn, can shape-shift into melatonin, the commander of the sleep-wake cycle. So, let’s keep them running smoothly!
Let me present:
(Yields cca. 2-3 glasses)
– 1,5 cup nut or seed milk (I used pumpkin seed milk)
– 1 frozen banana
– 2 peaches
– 2 clementines or oranges
– 1,5 lime
– 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
– 1-2 dried figs (optional)
– 1 TBS of nut or seed butter or 1 tbs cold pressed coconut oil.
1. Peel the citrus fruit. Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
