I am thrilled to share this recipe from my upcoming raw food cookbook. It is one of my favorite potions in the world and one of the best restorative drinks you can treat yourself with for Iftar or Sehoor – it is a far superior alternative to coffee or black tea.

It is silky smooth, pleasantly sweet, and comfortingly warming.  Just holding a cup of this liquid gold and absorbing its warmth and vibrant yellow color is healing.

To calculate the sum of its health benefits is a real challenge, since each of its parts – turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, honey and raw coconut oil –  has an impressive CV.

This antioxidant-rich potion helps reduce inflammation and toxicity in your body, alleviate pain, harmonize the levels of sugar and fats in the blood, and improve digestion, blood circulation, and mood –  this is just the short list.

Yellow Panacea’ is how I like to call it. It really does live up to this name.

TURMERIC LATTE

Serves 1-2

1 C. warm water

1 C. almond or coconut milk

1 tsp. turmeric powder or 2-3 peeled fingers of fresh turmeric

1-2 cm (0,5-1-inch) long finger of fresh ginger or 1/2 tsp. powdered ginger

½ tsp. Ceylon cinnamon

1-1 ½ tsp. honey, maple or coconut sugar

1 tsp. raw coconut oil

Pinch of black pepper or vanilla powder

Blend all ingredients, except for the sweetener, in a high speed blender. Strain the mixture through a sieve in order to eliminate any fibrous residue. Sweeten with honey according to taste. Serve immediately. Enjoy its healing gifts!

For turmeric tea, use 2 C. warm water, 1 tsp. turmeric powder, ½ tsp. cinnamon, 1 T. coconut oil, pinch of black pepper, and sweetener to taste.

It is one of my favorite. Interesting idea to add some black pepper. Can’t wait to give it a try. Thanks!

Black pepper helps tumeric get absorbed, plus it gives an extra touch of heat. Give it a go and let me think how you like it! Thanks for your comment!

Awesome sana. I had a similar one in Planet Organic and you would think that the black pepper hit would be overwhelming, but it’s fantastically complementary. Great recipe!
