Do you crave salty foods after breaking your fast, but want to keep it on a light, nut-free note, so as not to put any extra pressure on your digestive tract (liver especially)?

I have discovered just the thing this Ramadan! Green olives and radishes!  I’ve been snacking on them almost every day for Iftar –  a perfect combo of two flavor and texture opposites – meaty&salty vs. crisp&slightly peppery!

Eating them together is the secret! You get that delish burst of freshness from the radishes and the lush saltiness from the voluptuous green olives, so that you do not have to use any actual salt.

These veggies do not only compliment each other in taste, but in health benefits as well.

Radishes are especially rich in vitamin C, fiber and, along with other cruciferous vegetables, they contain compounds that are broken down into isothiocyanates when combined with water. Isothiocyanates help purge the body of cancer-causing substances and prevent tumor development.

Olives are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats (oleic acid) and contain powerful antioxidants such as vitamin E and polyphenols that protect your cells from damage caused by  free radicals. Antioxidants help you avoid medical problems like diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease and neurological (brain and nerve) dusorders.

So, give this power couple a go this Ramadan – you are in for a holistic treat!
